Wesley Nash  |  Artist

Picture
Wesley Nash, born and bred in Townsville Qld, now resides in the Margaret River wine region nestled in the south west area of WA, with wife lee and three children, Eli, Gabriel and Brierly.

Having always had a passion for art and anything creative, Wes has been painting since he was a child and sold his first painting at his local high school fete.. After completing Art in years eleven and twelve, he then went on to study at the Townsville Collage of Art, as well as completing an apprenticeship in traditional hand painted signwriting. He then enrolled in a Fine Arts Degree at Claremont School of Arts, WA, proceeded by fine arts studies at the  Edith Cowan University, Bunbury, WA. He then furthered his skills by participating in both group and individual art classes held by renowned WA artist such as Michael J Summers, Brian Simmons and John Garde. To this day Wes still continues to achieve the highest understanding of art and its practises. The work that you see today by Wes Nash is a very stylized technique, influenced by the Post Impressionists, the Surrealists and the Fauvists. His main subject matter is landscapes and nudes; the body of work exhibited at the Nash Gallery Café consists totally of landscapes. Wes has showcased his work in numerous exhibitions throughout Australia, gaining him popularity and commissions for private collections in Australia and overseas.

Artist Statement

I hope you enjoy the visual feast before you. This is a taste of Western Australia with its vineyards and refreshing coastlines. With my paintings I have a fascination with light and shadows as well as distorting the elements of nature. The trees take on their own life form as they twist and contort to their surrounds giving them movement and a sense of dance to each painting. I also love to play with my horizon line, giving it a real curvature of the earth look. I have only just started to include life forms in my landscapes and like every good painting; it’s all about experimenting with new things and seeing where it takes you. The feelings I get from my paintings is one of joy and happiness, to look at life through child’s eyes and not to be too serious about things.  I think paintings should also talk to you, when you first look at one you smile and then you start connecting. Look at me, it will say, and then the rest is history. Bon appetite.
